Vision boards gained popularity in the last decade after famous people such as Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce shared their positive impact on their lives. Every year, countless high-achieving people sit down to visualize their goals. This article will teach you how to create a vision board to manifest your goals.
How does it really work?
Vision boards work in two different ways.
First, In order to manifest your desires, you need to communicate them to the universe. It’s important to be clear and specific about what you want. Just like people can’t read your mind, the universe needs to be told what you are hoping to achieve. By sharing your deepest aspirations, you open yourself up to opportunities that can help you reach your goals.
By clarifying your dreams, you become more aware of them and affirm your belief in yourself and your worth. This renewed sense of purpose motivates you to seek out opportunities that align with your goals. As a result, you become more attentive to signs, cues, and chances that present themselves along the way.

Secondly, when your goals are visible to you, you are much more likely to put effort and energy into achieving them. Looking at your goals on a daily basis is an excellent way to remind yourself of what you’re striving for, and it can help you maintain your motivation when facing adversity. A vision board is not just a tool for wishing for the life you desire; it works because of the mindset it creates in your mind. Furthermore, it is an effective way to train your brain to focus on the things you want to achieve.

If you’re not convinced, I encourage you to give it a try and see for yourself. The worst that can happen is that you lose a few hours, but the best-case scenario is that your dream life will start unfolding in front of you.
Let’s dive into how to create a vision board.
How to create a vision board
1) Select a medium
Traditionally, vision boards were most often physical items. People would use a blank canvas, cardboard, or even a corkscrew board.
In recent years, many have chosen to create an online vision board. Several apps exist, but many simply use PowerPoint or a design site such as Canva.
The choice between methods for creating a vision board is entirely up to you. Personally, I prefer using a physical vision board because it allows me to display it in my home and share my goals and dreams with my family. Additionally, I find it to be a beautiful decoration that adds value to my living space.
Therefore, my focus will be to share how to create a vision board in its physical form.
2) Purchase and gather your material
Find or buy a cardboard poster, a board of some sort, or a blank canvas. I purchased this canvas for my vision board. A canvas is a nice option. It is versatile and can easily be moved around the house to serve as a pretty decoration.
You then need to find a mix of printed images and words you will want to use. It is a great way to reuse magazines or books you no longer want. Alternatively, if you do not have any, you can find the images and words you want to use, and print them online. Lastly, if you don’t mind spending a little money on this, you can purchase a vision board image book. I recently purchased this one on Etsy which is absolutely beautiful.
Finally, you will need glue or tape and a pair of scissors to complete this project.
3) Let your creativity flow
How to create a vision board is quite simple. Firstly, you need to reflect on your honest thoughts and dreams, then add creativity to make it aesthetically pleasing.
With that said, let me break down a few points that will likely help you get started.
To create your manifestation board, the first step is to define the period for which you want to set your goals. It is recommended to set your goals for a year as it gives you enough time to identify meaningful goals and work towards achieving them. However, it is important to keep in mind that you cannot predict what the universe has in store for you. Therefore, it is perfectly fine to identify a few dreams or goals that may not be achievable this year. Just put them out there and see what happens. Who knows, you might be surprised!
Second, do a little planning before you just start cutting up images. Look at the following categories and write down what you want for each of them.
- Relationships: These can be romantic, friendship, family-oriented, etc.
- Career & Money: What is your dream job? How do you want to perform or be perceived at work? Do you want a raise/promotion? Do you want to save money? Create financial stability? etc.
- Health & Wellness: Do you want to become more active? Eat better? Run a marathon? Sleep more? etc.
- Home and Lifestyle: Do you want a new home? Do home improvements? Travel? Start camping? Get a new car or pet? etc.
- Personal development: Do you want to volunteer in your community? Read more? Improve at public speaking? etc.
- Lastly, find the perfect images, words, and inspirational quotes to add to your board. I encourage you to be creative.
Pro tip: Organize them on your board before you tape or glue them. Consider organizing them by category or simply how they look best.
What next?
Proudly show your work of art with your loved ones. Explain to them what is on your board and why? Remember, you believe you are worth all of your wildest dreams.
Find a place to display it in your home. Look at it every day. Imagine yourself realizing each of those dreams. You can even meditate with your board nearby. Look at it before closing your eyes, and focus on your dreams during your meditation.
Pro tip: I also like taking a picture of my vision board that I save as my phone wallpaper. This way, it is present with me even when I am not at home.
In conclusion
Now that you know why and how to create a vision board, there is nothing that can stop you. Dream big, believe in yourself, and live your best life.
Happy creating!
