Having a clean house is something most try to achieve. However, what clean means varies depending who you talk to. What’s important is that you have a system that works for you. I’ll admit, I’m a little OCD when it comes to cleaning my house. Okay, my kids would say I’m over the top. I do really like a clean home. In this article, I will share my kitchen house cleaning checklist that you can use if you are struggling to find a method that works for you.
How to keep your kitchen looking nice and clean
The secret isn’t much of a secret. Ultimately, the key is to keep your kitchen clean daily. That’s right! Every day, make a point to do the dishes, empty the trash, wipe down the counters, and keep the stovetop clean. Once you can systematically do this, implement a bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly kitchen cleaning checklist.
In addition to a complete cleaning checklist, it’s important to set a schedule. The best way to be successful is to stick to a cleaning routine. Pick a day and time you know works for you at least 90% of the time. If you manage to keep your kitchen clean daily, you should not need much more than 1 hour every other week.
As for the monthly, quarterly and semi-annually tasks on my checklist, you can choose to incorporate them throughout the year or have a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annually block. I like to scatter them throughout. Meaning, in May, I might clean the curtains and do it again in November. But, perhaps I clean behind the stove in April and again in October. Make sense? This is what has worked well for me. You just need to stay organize and write down when you do something so that you do not forget.

Here is my kitchen house cleaning checklist:
Kitchen house cleaning favorites
I try to use natural products to clean my house as much as I can. It is my belief that our environment directly impacts our health and I do what I can to minimize our family’s exposure to toxic products. I make several of my cleaning products and buy others. Let me share some of my current go-to with you.
Glass bottles
I purchased several spray glass cleaning bottles over the last few years. They look great and are great for the environment. My favorite has been the clear glass bottle I purchased from Grove Collaborative. I have had a few of them for several years and they still work as well as new. I also have a few amber bottles from amazon that works well.
All-purpose cleaner
I use the DoTerra concentrate all-purpose cleaner. They have 2 different ones. I prefer the Abode line for the kitchen but use the on-guard line for the bathrooms. It is really simple to make as you just mix the concentrate with tap water directly into your spray bottle. I use the multi-purpose cleaner in the kitchen for the table, chairs, barstools, inside of microwave/dishwasher/refrigerator, trash can, cabinets, drawers, knobs and more. It is a very versatile product and it smells great. Grove Collaborative also has good concentrate options.
Granite cleaner
I have granite countertops and started to make my own cleaner a couple of years ago. Below is the recipe I use. To a 16 oz spray glass bottle add:
- 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
- 30 drops of essential oils (not required but will make it smell so good, my favorites are peppermint, tea tree and lemongrass)
- Tap water
- 3-4 drops of dish soap (add after the water so that it doesn’t start foaming)
Glass cleaner
I also make my own glass cleaner and it is as good if not better as the ammonia ones out there without the toxins. Again, use a 16 oz spray glass bottle and add the following:
- 1/2 cup of white vinegar
- 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol
- 30 drops of essential oils (Same as above, not required but will make it smell so good. I love peppermint and lavender for this one)
- Tap water
Floor cleaner
We have wood floors in our kitchen. I use the Bona floor mop and cleaner. It does a great job and I love to be able to throw the mop pad in the washer every week.
Sink cleaner
When it comes to our sinks, I like to use the multi-purpose cleaner on a daily basis to keep the sink clean and sanitized. Then, on a bi-weekly basis, I mix a small quantity of baking soda (1/4 cup) with 15 drops of lemon or tea tree essential oil. I use a sponge and give it a good scrub. It leaves it smelling and looking fresh.
Essential oils
I get all of my essential oils from DoTerra. The oil quality is great and a small bottle will go a long way.
In conclusion..
I hope this article has helped you understand and organize the tasks required to keep your kitchen clean. I’d love to create more house cleaning checklists for other rooms in the house if this was helpful. Feel free to leave a comment to let me know if you’d be interested.
As always, thank you for reading.
