Brunch- fried egg, toast, fruit and coffee cup assortment on table

As a mother, I have hosted numerous Mother’s Day gatherings at our home over the years. This meant ensuring that the house was clean, planning a menu, and preparing and cooking the food. My husband has always done an excellent job of helping with most of the cooking that day, but I know not everyone is as fortunate. In this article, I will share an easy and delicious Mother’s Day brunch buffet that I believe is a fantastic idea that won’t leave you slaving in the kitchen all day.

Drinks

You have several options when it comes to drinks that can accompany a brunch nicely.

  1. Coffee or hot chocolate (with or without alcohol such as Bailey or chocolate liquor)
  2. Juice bars are enjoyed by most. You can buy fresh juice at the market or buy produce and let people make their own concoctions with a juicer like the Hamilton Beach offered at a decent price and with great reviews.

Food

Mini Quiche

They are easy and filling. You can make your own ahead of time but on Mother’s Day, I choose the easy route. These frozen mini-quiches are a perfect option. They are great hot but still delicious as they cool off a bit.

Crepes

Flat lay French crepes with chocolate sauce and banana in ceramic dish on wooden kitchen table perfect for a brunch buffet

It is so easy to cook a large batch of crepe before Mother’s Day. You can make them the day before and keep them in the refrigerator, or make them way early and freeze them until the big day. Set a griddle or a pan on the stove where people can quickly heat up a crepe before adding their favorite toppings on top. This electric griddle with a warming tray would be great. I have an older and more basic one that does the job as well. Our favorite crepe toppings include:

  • Fresh fruits or fruit spreads (we love this organic brand made with real ingredients and no added sugar)
  • Maple syrup (I mean, I am Canadian after all)
  • Chocolate & hazelnut spread
  • Whipped cream (did you know you can make your own with a device like this? And it’s so much better tasting)

If you’d like to serve bacon and sausage, the griddle with a heated drawer would be fantastic.

Yogurt parfait

Use pretty wine classes to create adorable yogurt parfait. Alternate between layers of yogurt, your favorite granola, and fresh fruits. Once again, kiddos can be put to work, or you could prep these the day before and store them in the refrigerator.

Mini smoked salmon bagels

Mother's Day brunch idea:A delectable smoked salmon bagel adorned with vibrant microgreens, red onions, and capers is elegantly presented on a modern ceramic dish, ready to be savored.

I love some fresh mini bagels with whipped cream cheese, chives, smoked salmon, and capers. This dish is extremely easy to assemble. You could enlist your children to do so (it is for the Mother’s Day brunch buffer after all). The leftovers can be kept in the fridge for a few days and enjoyed for lunch.

Pastries and muffins

Place an order at your favorite bakery and order a nice assortment of fresh pastries, breads, and muffins.

Cheese board

It doesn’t get much more simple than a cheese board. Select a good variety of cheese that you love and organize it nicely on a wooden board. Add some fresh baguette nearby and your enjoy!

Breakfast casserole

Prep your favorite breakfast casserole the day before and heat it up right before your guests arrive. Our go-to casserole is this one. We make it anytime we have company spending the night and it’s always a winner.

Breakfast tacos

Make a large back of scrambled eggs, lay out some tortilla shells, and add some filling options such as: shredded cheese, bacon bites, green onions, or diced tomatoes.

Pro tip: You can keep the eggs warm using an instant pot or electric skillet that has a warmer mode.

Fruit salad

Seasonal fruit salad with red strawberries, pineapples, and blueberries on black ceramic bowl for a Mother's day brunch buffet

Use seasonal fruits and make a fresh and tasty fruit salad to complete your Mother’s Day brunch buffet. Here are some fruits that are considered in season during the month of May: strawberry, mango, kiwi, pineapple, and cherry. Add a bit of fresh orange juice, maple syrup, and chopped fresh mint. Voila!

In conclusion

Mother’s Day is about spending time together and celebrating the mothers in our lives. Keep it simple is the best advice I can give you. Focus on how to connect with others rather than how to impress your friends and family. This Mother’s Day brunch buffet is super simple but delicious and satisfying. It’s a perfect companion to a perfect day.
